Fasting

The spiritual practice of refraining from food or certain foods as an act of purification and preparation — a practice common across religious traditions including vegetalismo.

Fasting is the spiritual practice of refraining from food, certain foods, or other substances for a set period as an act of purification and preparation. It appears across many religious traditions — including the broader vegetalismo traditions of the Peruvian Amazon — as a way of quieting the body so the spirit can listen more clearly.

At Earth Connection Community, fasting guidelines form part of the pre-ceremony protocol participants receive before a retreat: a period of avoiding heavy, processed, or stimulating foods in the days leading up to ceremony, undertaken for spiritual purpose — creating the stillness and reverence with which ceremony is met.

Any questions about how fasting guidelines interact with a participant's medications are addressed during intake screening. ECC never instructs anyone to stop or change a prescribed medication; any such decision belongs to the participant and their own medical provider.
