Visionary Plant

A plant that facilitates expanded spiritual perception — used within religious traditions as a means of accessing the spiritual dimension and receiving guidance from the sacred.

A visionary plant is a plant used within a religious tradition to facilitate expanded spiritual perception — opening participants to imagery, insight, and a sense of contact with the sacred that the tradition understands as genuinely spiritual, not merely psychological or chemical in nature.

Within the Shipibo curanderismo tradition and related Amazonian traditions, the ayahuasca brew is the central visionary plant sacrament, and its use is always situated within ceremony — prepared and administered by a trained facilitator, held within prayer, icaros, and the structure of ceremonial space. ECC does not present visionary plants as a means of therapeutic self-exploration or secular consciousness-alteration; their purpose within the community's practice is spiritual communion and guidance.
